So you’re off to college? Congratulations! You are about to start a wonderful new chapter in your life that is both memorable and rewarding. College is the time to make memories, friends, and a path towards your desired career. Before you pack up and hit the road, here are a few suggestions you should add on your to- do list.
Have Some Fun with High School Friends
Chances are, your friends are about to embark on individual paths once they’ve graduated as well. You may think that you now have all the time in the world to spend with those individuals you formed lasting friendships with in high school. Unfortunately, things do not always work out and people sometimes do not make the time to keep in contact with one another. Try to set aside some time for your closest friends before moving away and perhaps make a few last memories to hold onto until the unpredictable time you’ll see each other again.
Downsize Belongings Before Packing
Keep in mind that there may be space limitations for your new dorm. In such a case, you should downsize your belongings accordingly to avoid overpacking. Even more frustrating, you’ll need to decide what is most important to you, and try your best to leave the rest. As challenging as these steps may be, your future self will thank you as there will be much less to unpack in a much more spacious room!
Make A Budget to Keep Track of Cash
No matter your means of financial support, now is the time to manage your money and make it last until the end of the month. You’ll need to figure out how much pizza is too much pizza (if that’s even possible!) and how much will go towards necessities such as clothing or textbooks. When motivation is lacking or temptations are calling, remember that it’s better to be committed rather than broke in the future.
Get In Contact with Your New Roomate
Rather than arriving only to find that your roomate is an actual representation of your worst nightmare (or lack there of, due to a great loss of sleep), find a way to contact the person you’ll be seeing a lot of in the near future. You can work out some ground rules and even get a head start on a healthy friendship. On the plus side, it will be nice to know someone by the time you arrive in your new home.
Make Plans for Your Health & Well-Being
While the transition from high school to college may be full of so much excitement and haste, you should make a few plans to remain the best version of yourself in the future. A nutritious diet and exercise program will have you feeling and looking your best in this new environment.
